Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer

on Windows 2000

and

Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator

on Window 2000

The Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) credential is for professionals who analyze the business requirements and design and implement the infrastructure for business solutions. Implementation responsibilities include installing, configuring, and troubleshooting network systems in addition to deploying new networks and systems.

The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) credential is for professionals to demonstrate the skills to successfully manage and troubleshoot system environments running on the Windows 2000 operating system.

Both certifications validate knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft products and technologies The MCSA is a direct subset of the requirements of the MCSE since the Systems Engineer job tasks incorporate all the Systems Administrator job tasks and takes them further. The major distinction is that the Systems Administrator certification focuses heavily on how to perform various job task while the Systems Engineer certification focuses on why to perform various tasks to reach a solution.
